The wheel on a stream or in a video
28 October 2026 · 6 min read
A wheel on camera is not a special effect. It is proof: the viewer sees the list, sees the spin and understands you did not pick the convenient option in advance. That kind of trust is worth more than pretty graphics.
Why bother at all
When a creator says “today we are doing this”, the audience takes the decision on faith. When there is a wheel with six topics on screen and you spin it live, expectation appears. Expectation holds attention better than the result itself: people stay to see what it lands on.
Scenario 1. The next video topic
The safest and most useful option. Build a list of 6–8 formats you genuinely enjoy making and spin at the end of the episode. The viewer leaves feeling they influenced the channel, and you get a ready plan for next time.
Important: the wheel should contain only topics you will really make. If there is an option you have no intention of filming, sooner or later someone notices.
Scenario 2. A challenge
The wheel is handy for dares: “if it lands on it, I do it”. The rules are simple: the list is shown before the spin, you spin once, the result is not replayed. A second spin kills the whole point — that is no longer a challenge but a staged bit.
Keep challenges safe and not humiliating. Anything involving health risks, money or someone's dignity is better left out of the wheel — it will not earn you trust from anyone watching.
Scenario 3. Roles in a co-op game
Playing as a team — the wheel decides who goes first, who takes support, who picks the map. It puts an end to the eternal “I am always on support” and turns the assignment into its own little moment of the stream.
Scenario 4. A viewer giveaway
If you are drawing a prize, stick to three things: the rules and the list of entrants are published in advance, the list does not change after the start, and the recording of the draw is kept. The wheel here is just a clear way to show the pick, not a replacement for the rules.
How it should look on camera
- 6–8 slices. More and the labels become unreadable on a phone.
- Short labels. “Review”, “Top 5”, “Challenge” — not “a detailed breakdown of beginner mistakes”.
- Show the list before spinning. Give the viewer three seconds to read it.
- Do not cover the wheel with your face or overlays. The slices should be fully visible.
- Spin once. The result is the result.
The technical side
The wheel runs in a browser, so it is enough to open it in a separate window and put it over the game or the scene. You can spin with the button, the space bar, the mouse wheel or by dragging — on a stream the button is best, so the motion is predictable and does not jolt the picture.
If you want a ready list, start from the “Next video topic” preset — it already has seven formats you can rewrite for yourself.
Build your list and spin it live.
